Drinking constantly so you have a mild buzz is not uncommon. It's called "maintenance drinking."

My family member who is in AA was a binge drinker, the kind who would not drink for days, then go on a bender and wake up two days later in a strange town in a different part of the country with no memory of the journey.

My family member who stopped drinking via meditation drank regularly every night but did not drive or travel after starting drinking, and would get obliterated every weekend.

My family member who died of cirrhosis started drinking at lunch time, would have beer with lunch, cocktails before dinner, wine with dinner, and then after dinner, settle down for some serious drinking.

Some people are energized by alcohol, some put to sleep. All depends on the metabolism.
