Oh boy. I thought the election season "W is like Lincoln" nonsense was the ultimate, but I guess there's always a bigger reach to be had when the faithful get worked up. So now W's most excellent use of 9/11 to get the war of his heart's desire in Iraq makes him like the Founding Fathers. You just gotta believe.

We are indeed again faced with a different, but similar situation. Our very way of life is hanging in the balance....So is that of the Iraqi people. Hopefully, most of them are wise enough to know it.

What is our way of life? And when hasn't it been in the balance? Growing up with the feeling that there's a target on your backside for a Soviet missile sure felt like a threat to me.

If force alone is to be the cure, we retain the ultimate force, should our way be seriously threatened with takeover. Strength, coupled with strategic vision, diplomacy and the maintenance of a moral high ground strikes me as a more effective use of all the tools in the toolbox.

We must also be aware that our way of life can be lost as easily by incompetence, and by enemies of freedom within our borders, as it can be lost from threats beyond those borders.
