TC and all the great members of the best thread on SI,

A very Merry Christmas and Holiday Season and a Healthy, Happy and Prosperous New Year to all!!!

Many thanks to all who have contributed their time to help maintain the thread members sanity over the years.

Still haven't tried to transfer over the address book and messages, etc. from Outlook Express v.6 XX to Outlook 2000 on my WIN 2000 Pro box, but will probably try next week. I'm chicken... afraid to lose them all!!!

I have two programs to suggest in response to other recent posts.

Registry Cleaner: I use JV16 Tools... great for not only cleaning the registry, but also makes removal of leftover files and directories after an uninstall very easy. I was amazed at how many files and directory entries are left behind after an uninstall. No, it's not free (used to be), but it's been upgraded and also makes a backup of all registry deletions. So far haven't had to use a backup and there has been a noticable speed increase. Found I had a problem reinstalling some programs until I used JV16 tools to completely clean up the registry and the leftover files and directories after the uninstall.

Spam Control: I use Mail Washer Pro and after a couple of months of the program "learning", it is a blessing. I get over 250 e-mails a day of which about 90% are spam or porno garbage. The program opens independently and is left running in the background and checks all your isps simultaneously at any interval you set it for. All the e-mails are shown, but not downloaded into your computer. They are marked as spam, filtered, "friend", etc. and a simple click on one box next to the email (if it is not already prechecked as spam) removes it from your isp's servers when you click process. The bad guys go away and the program learns who your personal bad guys and friends are so they come up marked correctly on the next e-mail check. It's cut my e-mail time to probably 15 minutes a day!! Great program and highly recommended as is JV16. No, I have no financial or other interest in either company or program.

I have one question I haven't been able to find an answer to. I use NOD32 antivirus which is used by many of the universities and corporations. It checks incoming mail and any change or modification or new files automatically. It only checks outgoing mail if using Outlook "commercial version"... whatever that is. On my WIN 2000 Pro server, I have Outlook 2000 installed (from Office 2000 Pro Premium... I think) and it does check outgoing e-mail using either Outlook or Outlook Express (NOD32 looks for Outlook during installation and will not install the outgoing e-mail component if Outlook (commercial version) is not present. I tried installing NOD32 on my laptop (WIN XP Pro with Outlook 2002 or XP) and even though I checked Outlook on installing NOD32, it wouldn't install the outgoing e-mail component. Anyone have any idea what Outlook (commercial version) is?? Or can I uninstall Outlook XP or 2002 (presume I would have to uninstall Office) from my WIN XP Pro laptop and install the Office 2000 from my server on the laptop? If so, what are the possible problems or negatives?

Many thanks to all and sorry for the long post. Once again, thanks to all and have a joyous holiday.

Marty
