Hi Jay, unfortunate I do not have the time to answer to all your points in your posts but I would try to summarize;

It is all boiling down on how you want to live and what one considers a satisfactory and fulfilling living

During my live I changed 3 life styles from communism to socialism to capitalism and as I look back none was to my liking but the with all it’s failures, injustices, dislikes and seditious parts I found that at present the US has the best that a big pool of humans can create.

Would admit that it is sad of such a mediocre performance but we as humans ignore another fact that we were created quite egoistic, stupid, lazy and with great expectation of reward for very little effort.

After claiming all that, I see Putin as a treat, as he will try to impose his concept of rightful wealth and wellbeing distribution on all of us in a similar way that the Islam was created to support all types of desire of power and wealth concentrated with few man by violent means under the auspices of religion even that it is not all that original, but we must confront the consequences even today, in some cases as acts of terror or more peaceful way of "oil embargo"

During human evolution little has changed in human aspirations and approach to life since the Roman Empire and the fact that the Roman Empire lasted for so long was their ruthless and cruel approach to any group of people who opposed their “life style” which grew out of my definition above.

Since every “Empire” no matter how ingenious and talented the founder was crumbled as soon as a more “human” approach was taken.

As an example - There was no reason for Alexander the Great to have such a short lived empire even after his death if he was adopting a ruthless and cruel approach toward those that challenged his rule and those of his successors.

The Arabs and the Ottoman Empire were much less “civilized”, tended to much more cruelty and therefore they succeeded to rule vast swats of the world population for many centuries, similar to the Russian Empire which was founded by a small ethnic group of (Varangians) Volga Rus / Bulgar Rus who over time took over what we know now as the former USSR.

As to Putin the danger is that he will turn in a cold blood “Khagan” similar to his ancestors the Huns or Varangians or the later Sviatoslav I, and try to turn Western Europe into “Bashkirs”. May be with some luck Putin will face the same fate as his predecessor Sviatoslav as he lost the chance of the late Attila

As to today investment climate and situation, Putin is robbing us of a chance to invest <smile> in the riches lands conquered by the Rus of what is now Russia as he wants to keep the booty for himself and his close allies and in the process take advantage of all of us.

<Bottom line, the US got itself into an untenable situation and a cannot-win fight. It has two choices at the end of every day, withdraw, setting of a global panic due to planet-wide realization that the King has no clothing and the sheriff is out of town, or persevere until the end of next day, until the days run out. I suspect the financial market has not taken full account of the current quagmire and eventual debacle.

Maurice will, and I will do it for him, respond … ‘oh Jay, don’t be an alarmist, Iraq is just a few million folks out of 6 billion CDMA light-sabre waving wannabies’.
>

Thanks Jay. Precisely. You summarized my Xmas message perfectly. Down with Armageddon say I. 666? Mythology. Bring on the light sabres so 2005 can be launched with peace, light, harmony, happiness, health, prosperity, longevity, fun and love.

Don't forget the USA was whupped in Vietnam and that wasn't the end of the world. It wasn't even much of a glitch, for the USA and the rest of the world, though the Vietnamese could have enjoyed South Korean/Singapore/Taiwan type progress, and even CDMA galore by now, if the USA had won. If the USA simply abandons Iraq, it wouldn't be such a bad thing for the USA and the King wouldn't be looking all that naked. There has been a LOT of shock and awe. Not many political power holders around the world would like a reprise in their neck of the woods with their necks on the line. They have watched Milosevic and Saddam and will keep their heads down to avoid such an outcome for themselves.
