Then it is a misnamed statistic. Its more a measure of income inequality then real poverty.

True, but not relevant because being under the poverty line means among other things that one's children don't get proper nourishment.

I'm talking about the definition used at geographyiq.com, not by wikipedia or the US government. If geographyiq.com uses the various government measures of poverty for each different country then they are measuring different things about different countries. Poverty level would mean one thing in one country and another thing in a 2nd, and then something else in a third and so on.
