Hello Doc V, I completely missed the tsunami news yesterday, even after you had given the heads-up at 2:00am SI time, and incredibly, after my response to you at 4:48am SI time.

Too much wine, and too busy playing on-line games. Failure of information system due to human error at a level even higher than what had happened in the Mesopotamian desert.

I got clued in just after dinner, a full 12 hours after the tsunami.

Because of the new baby, we did not go on our usual beach holidays in the neighborhood, usually Thailand, and generally something like Krabi krabi-hotels.com in Phuket or El Nido in the Philippines elnidoresorts.com .

Had we been in Phuket, we would likely have been hit, as my wife tends to (a) rise late in the AM, or (b) rise early but gone water-sporting. Either way, goners for sure.

We had also visited Maldives before, and apparently the islands, none higher than 6 feet above sea level, has been hit with 5 foot waves.

By the looks of what is on TV, a disaster to be sure. What a way to start a new year.

Jay
