Well, I think when I said blinded by ideology I meant a couple of things. I probably should have elaborated on that a little. The first kind of ideology is the belief system of the right wing that the U.S. is the best, most positive nation in the world, and everything we do all over the world is wonderful (even if the people we are doing it to don't agree). The second part of ideology is the belief that the U.S. government always tell the truth and everyone else--including the foreign press--is a bunch of big fat liars. So whatever your president tells you is the gospel truth. The reason I call these belief systems ideologies is that they are so strong, and unchallenged by any kind of truth or reality seeping in. They include the notion that American lives are worth much, much more than the lives of other human beings, that we have a great democracy, and that everyone on earth would be the richer for having the same thing (even if we have to kill a lot of them to give it to them).
