Currently, the best way to find it is to Search Private Messages for one or two keywords you can remember from the PM.

You should be able to click on Inbox, then Outbox, then click on the reply that *you* had sent, and then within that message, click on "(who wrote)" to get back to the original PM.

I just added a "TrashCan" link.

It displays the last 100 private messages written to you that aren't in your Inbox and that you haven't filed. Hopefully.
