Re: During his surprise Christmas Eve trip Iraq, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld referred to the flight being shot down – long a suspicion because of the danger the flight posed to Washington landmarks and population centers.

Was it a slip of the tongue? Was it an error? Or was it the truth, finally being dropped on the public more than three years after the tragedy of the terrorist attacks that killed nearly 3,000?

It was none of that... Rumsfeld knows that he's currently in the hot seat and that people, topsiders are covertly --and for some, openly-- calling for his resignation. It might also suits Prez Bush's design to turn his second term into a bipartisan fest --Joe Lieberman as Rumsfeld's successor?

Anyway, my point is that Rumsfeld's slip of the tongue on the Pennsylvania "shootdown" is actually sort of a backhanded blackmail by the (outgoing?) Secretary of Defense: Rumsfeld's message is, Okay, I'll get the sack and the flak... for the mess in Iraq BUT don't you push it too far! I know enough on 911, I know enough how things REALLY happened on 911 to make other heads roll as well.... Somehow, Rumsfeld is merely waving his "insurance policy" at his tormentors....
