What is more interesting is the chain of events: 1) The winner of the elections has a wife that worked for Bush and is US educated. We pumped tons of money into his side. Putin, on the other hand, was trying everything possible on the other side giving tons of money and probably doing worse things. 2) We won. 3) Putin is super pissed so he goes on TV saying "We will do military exercises with the other big dictatorship - China". This kind of implies that Russia may support China going after Taiwan. 4) Powell responds today saying We are happy to see the outcome of the election and look forward to doing lots of things with the new government including military exercises. So we are now back into the cold war although nobody wants to say it.
