Deuteronomy 15:11
There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your brothers and toward the poor and needy in your land.

I doubt you wish to pit Jesus as antagonist against the poor and disenfranchised, even including sexually abused children! I must take it, then, that you considered it rather an in-house, side comment among friends agreeing on a position, rather than a contribution to understanding in a larger sense. OTOH, maybe it is a logical extension of The Da Vinci Code conspiracy, in which the church conspires to hide all kinds of secret sexual activities from Jesus day until now. Indeed, apples do not fall far from the tree! There may be more opportunity for fun in the church than most of us know! I'll have to pursue your reasoning further! In any case, happy new year. The truth about all this will, indeed must, prevail in the end, I believe, in spite of all the invested arguments on either side. Polkinghorne says reality will be the ultimate measure, which will be fun to see as it develops. Stay alive in '05.
