I think one of the lessons is that you should not follow the advice if you are unable to do due diligence ahead of time. Regarding the price of his newsletter, you make the error that he would profit more if he raised its price. That is not necessarily true. In all economic transactions there is a point of diminishing returns; that would be the point where he would make more per newsletter but sell fewer of them thereby resulting in lower returns. He may feel that he has priced the newsletter at the optimum point in the curve.
