Some might be happier with having religious education (like me) added to the curriculum because it would de-fuse (and diffuse) the emotion by providing a forum. But to dilute science with matters that ultimately tie one to a belief system just plain and simple, isn't scientific. RE is the correct forum for the discussion of religious matters, IMO.

Now, I have to admit that the RE class would no doubt end up becoming a bully pulpit for some persons (and their particular beliefs). That would not be wise - I'd love to teach an RE class - I'd teach it like zoology! There in lies the rub because someone else would teach it as religion.
