Bush admin not too busy to badmouth Clinton. Talk about poor taste:

President's latest response to the tsunami tragedy: badmouth Bill Clinton.

From the Post ...

Earlier yesterday, White House spokesman Trent Duffy said the president was confident he could monitor events effectively without returning to Washington or making public statements in Crawford, where he spent part of the day clearing brush and bicycling. Explaining the about-face, a White House official said: "The president wanted to be fully briefed on our efforts. He didn't want to make a symbolic statement about 'We feel your pain.' "

Many Bush aides believe Clinton was too quick to head for the cameras to hold forth on tragedies with his trademark empathy. "Actions speak louder than words," a top Bush aide said, describing the president's view of his appropriate role.

Actions speak louder than words? Actions?

<<But we don't fund enough cops on our streets to stop 15,000 Americans dying in drunk-driver accidents every year>>

Sorry, couldn't let that one go by!

I assert the problem is one of penalty rather than shortage of police. The increasing passage of more and more police state policies by the federal and state governments is a byproduct of the statement you made. "Please protect us! We need more police." Enforcement of the existing laws and adjusting penalties would likely reduce drunk driving by a massive amount. Let's say you got 5 years hard time(no exceptions for sports figures, politicians, etc.) on a work gang doing public works projects(think park improvements) for 1st offense drunk driving. Think taxi cabs would benefit? LOL even though it's not a laughing matter.
