Don't confuse yourself. Remember you're talking about newly built homes.

You suggest Home Builders withdraw their homes from sale when they can't get a good rise in price, even while they continue to build even more.

Contrary to your odd perspective, Home Builders aren't trying to move to a better neighborhood. Nothing very "Rational" about that comment.

One has to be careful about making a judgment based on inventory of unsold homes. The asking prices are very high. Everyone wants to sell his/her home at a price to make profits and "move up." When buyers do not emerge to pay profits, the listed home is withdrawn from the market after some time. These listings are not cases of distress sales.
