t was surprising to see the election so close, anyway. I thought WA was a very "left" state?

Washington is a very independant state. Voters often cross party lines. Rossi was mostly unknown to most voters. Gregiore was more high profile. She gathered support in some quarters as Attorney General, but pissed off a lot of other folks too. She was infavor of reducing father's rights and increasing the responsibilities for child custody cases in this state which I think swung more male votes to Rossi.

All in all, I think the state performed it's election duties well, especially when compared to Ohio and FL.
