I just returned from 4 days in the Phuket area in Thailand. The situation is mind boggling to say the least. 2 immediate risks are disease from dead/rotting bodies, and lack of quality water. At one stage we could not find enough body bags to bury, and just had to dump bodies into mass graves. The locals were reluctant to bury without identifying, and we could not find enough people who could identify. Finally, we just took photos of each body, along with any papers etc that were on it, put it in a storage location and buried.

Went there with a team of folks from Aus Red Cross. Some of us were docs & nurses, some were comms engineers, some were just willing to help in whatever way.

Wish I could have stayed longer - was sent packing back after a stomach bug led to diarhea & vomiting.
