Hi Maurice, <<Anger can be a burden, leading to silly mistakes>>

... yes.

<<it can lead to belligerent attack over trivia>>

... which leads to more mistakes of greater consequence.

<<meaning an opponent can make a worse mistake in provoking an attack that wasn't really wanted>>

... USA attacking Russia or China? :0)

<<Bloody-mindedness can be an obstacle, but it can also lead to a bigger share of the cake as others give up on the nut-job>>

... Is either Russia or China or Japan or anybody else giving up cake to the US? :0)

<<It's hard to know what is good until after the event>>

... not really, just do the natural trade.

<<But military back-up is handy when dealing with the likes of Adolf, Stalin>>

... you see them around?

I told you once and a gizzilion times, war is best won without battle, and once engaged in, ends in quagmire. Do not let the ancient history of WWII mislead you on war's efficacy, that was an one-off event per age. You do not want to see another global war, for no winners are feasible. And so we are left with positioning, stratagem, and other acts requiring more thinking and less doing.

<<A sense of purpose is useful too>>

... only when not misguided and terribly led, else a waste of time and effort, debilitating, self-defeating, and leads to ... well, you know ... reckoning day, and forces the protagonists' eyes off the critical ball.

Do not let the parameters of the sandbox limit your pondering.

Chugs, Jay

Mq, perhaps you can buy one of our surplus carriers and use it to defend Taiwan...

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Pentagon plans to retire one of the U.S. Navy's 12 aircraft carriers and buy fewer amphibious landing ships for the Marine Corps as part of $60 billion in proposed cuts over the next six years, the New York Times reported Thursday, citing Congressional and military officials.
