John, your presence in the energy industry for three and a half decades may be an admirable record, but it has absolutely no bearing whatsoever on the thrust of my argument, i.e. the U.S. is being misled into unnecessary wars due a blockhead mentality at the executive level that Lee Raymond (Exxon CEO) and his ilk exist at. The U.S. is being led into a horrendous foreign policy which is gleefully being cheered on by war materiel contractors who see the American addiction for oil to be justification for perpetual wars of conquest and perpetual dependence of the U.S. on constantly deleting resources in the most unstable areas of the planet. If you would take your blinders off, you might see that a better future is possible. One where, instead of continuous nasty and immoral wars, the U.S. could actually harness it scientific and technological prowess to wean itself off its self-destructive addiction to oil. I strongly encourage you to check out this surprisingly entertaining film, "The End of Suburbia". endofsuburbia.com What rational people see, and what old oil industry hands are unwilling to admit, is that without perpetual wars, the oil industry must change. BP and Shell clearly understand this. Unfortunately for most Americans, Exxon, Chevron and Unocal (among others) are perfectly happy to be the key and principle beneficiaries of a military budget gone mad. If the American public really understood that low price they pay for a tank of gas is grotesquely subsidized by the asset stripping they endure via Form 1040 to run the ugliest military adventurism on the planet today, they would determine that, indeed, a much better future is possible.
