That was a comment on their general reputation.

That could be changing. Their previous focus on increased benefits without regard to the tax burden on young workers looked greedy. But their opposition to privatization could be construed as concern for the younger generation. After all, current retirees won't be directly affected by any SS change. It's impact will be on younger workers and taxpayers. If they believe as they obviously do as do many others that the present system is a good one and that privatization will risk benefits for future retirees, then they are acting in what they believe, correctly or incorrectly, to be in the best interests of their juniors rather than themselves.
