Don > If America knew the truth, the anger currently directed at Iraqis would fall squarely on the heads of the criminals responsible for the atrocities of 9/11.

Ignorance is no excuse although I do accept there is not much anyone could have done even if they knew the truth, as we do, or believe we do.

Apropos the Iraqis, unfortunately, regrettably and without being moralistic, I feel most Americans care more about their dogs than about people in Iraq or Afghanistan who have been killed for nothing. Whether this is the result of misdirected fear, media brainwashing, racial prejudice or religious bigotry I cannot say because the Iraqis have done the Americans no harm. Indeed, and as I understand it, most Iraqis admired America and the Americans.

And as far as those responsible are concerned, one can only hope that their bloodlust is satiated for a while because there is no way they can or will be brought to justice. I know it is almost trite to say it, but these people have destroyed whatever America stood for, certainly in the eyes of many/most non-Americans, and they have brought the world back into the "dark ages".
