Thanks. Some good info there. One of the frustrating things about the HDTV sector, for investments, is its extremely slow roll out. Sales of TV sets in general have slowed to a trickle because of uncertainty about when HDTV will be the required standard, so traditional sets have gotten larger and cheaper, which in turn makes it harder for higher priced HDTV sets to compete.
If congress and the FCC had stuck with their original plan, there'd be a lot more stations broadcasting HDTV now and certainly more HDTV sets on the market.
For a chip maker like TXN the HDTV market is still a drop in the bucket. CSFB is optimistic though:

CSFB expects digital TV chip sector to grow 27% in 2005

LONDON (CSFB) -- Credit Suisse First Boston semiconductor analysts said Texas

Instruments Inc. is "squarely positioned" to benefit from growth in chips for

the digital television market. They predicted demand would rise 27 percent in

2005 and that the year would represent an "inflection" for advanced screens for

which TI makes digital light processing chips. Broadcom Corp. and ATI

Technologies Inc. should also see positive impact from the transition to

digital transmission, the broker's team said.
