what about spreads that short junk? junk spreads have narrowed ridiculously. is there any way to short a junk index or proxy through the futures or regular equities?

Not that I know of.
WE need a junk futures index first.

Russ's idea of agencies to treasuries seems like a pretty good bet. Still, I do not know how you can beat cheap June ED options for some sort of hedge at least.

I think just the spread trades I outlined on the futures. In equities there are names like MBI, MTG, NEW, and maybe even MCO (Moody's). There ought to be questions about them when it's all said and done? Or just the XLF index puts, which are cheap.
