I think Jesus is fine, if one takes his teaching the way one might take the teachings of Buddha- as a guide to living a better life. If, however, you take the bible as a whole, and believe it as a whole, with all it's blood and guts, then yes, you might as well believe in Freddy or Jason- for all the good it does you, in terms of making you a more humane person. Now I grant you, some people just want a God club- and for them one God is as good as the next, and their belief is merely an accident of where they were born (though they will never understand that.) I think those are the folks you think of when you say "harlot riding the beast drunk with the blood of the saints "- and I say to you that this image goes for the followers of any religion, who just accept, without thinking, and without caring about their humanity, or the humanity of people different from them. All people who use religion as a neat hedge against "The Other", whoever the other happens to be, are contributing to two of the great evils men are prone to- imo- the urge to tribalism, and inter tribal violence.

So we might actully be in agreement here- we're just saying the same thing if different ways.
