When I was a kid in northern Wisconsin, Saturday night was bath night and was accomplished in a galvanized round tub with water heated on a wood burning kitchen stove and added as necessary to keep ice from forming in the tub. The water came from a hand pumped well. I was ten yrs old before the new-fangled stuff like plumbing and a shower and an electric stove were acquired. Saturday night became a bitch by the time I was eight yrs old and was the oldest and biggest kid there of four to six in winter and 24 in summer; last one in line for the galvanized tub. At least when we got a real shower, being last meant finally having unused clean water for bathing. Talk about being in paradise!
