That's really interesting about Ireland.

My son got a really severe ear infection that was resistant to treatment- and his fever got so high that put him in hospital, and gave him IV antibiotics. He had a nice little bed cubbie area, and for a while he was the only child in his room. There was an excellent game system, so he was a happy boy. Even though we lived just across the street from the hospital, they invited me to spend the night in the family rooms (which had EXCELLENT showers compared to the one in our house!), My son didn't want to be there alone- so I stayed with him the first two nights.

And Raigmore hospital was one of the biggest and best hospitals in Scotland- I'm sure some of the little local hospitals do have care issues- as well as the fact that they are closing some of the smaller hospitals. So, if you're going to get sick in Scotland, get sick in Inverness, and go the Raigmore (and let me just had that the food my son got was WONDERFUL! He had a curried chicken breast one night that smelled so good I almost stole it from him).
