END OF YEAR TAX TIPS

Reported and Web Produced by: John Matarese
Updated: 12/29/04 16:52:16

One of the simplest way to lower this years tax bill, and hold onto more of your cash on april 15th, is to give...Give to a recognized charity before January 1st.

Most donations are tax deductive.

But we have some other secrets for reducing your tax load that are not as obvious.

For instance, you may know that home mortgage interest is tax deductible.

So if you can pay a bit more now, you can save on your federal taxes in April!

The same holds true for any local income or property taxes you may owe.

So here's our latest list of our end of year tax saving tips:

-Donate money or a car to charity.

-By the way, car donations wont be worth as much next year.

-Also: Pay January's mortgage payment early, and deduct the interest.

-Pay January's property taxes or local income taxes early.

-Invest 2,000 in an IRA, which is tax deductible under certain income levels.

-And put extra money in a childs 529 college plan.

If you're sending in an early property tax payment, all that's required is a December 2004 date on the check and December postmark on the envelope. And you dont have to make an IRA payment right now: You have till April 2005 to invest in your IRA, and still deduct it from this year's taxes.

It seems like its been weeks since I posted at 3:55 AM EST Dec 26 Sun morning early the first notice here of the earthquake, mentioning that it had killed an estimated 500 people.

Message 20888557

It took most of Sunday for most of the US and the world to realize a bit of the magnititude of the disaster.

Every day, we hear more and more, and the numbers of known dead are now about 119,000 and counting, with evidently several thousand Americans not accounted for as well.

One thing that one of the papers said while comparing some of the money pledged by some of the Nations...."Aside of the military support, $35 million initially from the US"....

Sending 1 aircraft carrier with 12 planes each (somehow I heard there were 2 coming, but know that the USS Lincoln is nearly there), and full load of military people, plus 4 attached ships, plus other planes full of supplies and help, can't be inexpensive.....
