I agree that in the decades to come Americans will have to make adjustments in the way they live, but I doubt the effect will disproportionately impact liberals. Liberals tend to be pretty affluent. Americans consume a disproportionate amount of resources and that can't continue forever. A lot of what is consumed is totally wasted. I think we will see society move away from unrestrained consumption, and the frugality that our parents or grandparents practiced will become all the rage, even fashionable.
