sure, also a thousand Germans and people from other nations are missing. What makes this a more significant tragedy for Sweden, however: 3,500 missing persons out of a total population of only 9 million means, that almost everybody is personally affected indirectly if not directly. Everybody knows somebody who knows and so on.

When the ferry "Estonia" and 850 souls with her went down years ago 500 Swedes perished and the impact on the Swedish society as described above is significant even now 10 years later.

Anyway, tragedy is tragedy and with 140,000+ lost lives we are all affected.
