Just wanted to welcome the few new readers here, and give a Happy New Year to all. This is probably my favorite night of the year, followed closely by the fourth of July. My friends and I are headed to a small concert venue in Minneapolis to see the Big Wu perform. Should be an evening to remember...

On the whole, the market still does not look healthy to me. We had a couple days this week with an end-of-day dump and I do not view that as encouraging. Most of all, the various volatility indices are indicative of an extreme amount of complacency. There is reason to be cautious, and as such I am not at all gung ho about holding big caps for any sort of extended period. Keep an eye on the banks in 2005; when that dam breaks there is going to be a flood elsewhere...

Meanwhile, various story stocks and those that more or less do not trend with the overall market will surely have their day. I anticipate that the primary focus here on this thread will continue to be these types of plays.

Best of luck in 2005.
