well, if you shop at Costco, you get 2% back from Costco and 1% back from Amex. NB i think you have to use the Costco-branded Amex card. i think there may be an upper eligiblity limit of $100,000 worth of purchases, or $3000 cash back, per year. Costco even pays for the Amex card (or rebates it, i forget), however, this is for the "executive" level Costco membership, which costs $100 per year.
