I think shooting airliners out of the sky would be a tremendous devastating threat that would throw the global economy into a tail spin.

I imagine the only reason it has not happened yet is that it is more difficult to do than I assume.

Why do you think AQ funding by SA or others has been impacted?

.<>>>Thus, I suspect that the calculation has been made that small-scale attacks are not worth the trouble they cause, but major catastrophic ones are definitely worthwhile. >>

OK: But along with that comes the keen desire of ME nations leaders to disconnect themselves from any terrorists in residence.
Because if any major action in the US is traced back to them, they now have to assume they could become another Afghanistan or Iraq. Target zero.

I think we could assume they would try to convince terrorists from other countries to do the job. And perhaps Iran or Syria is doing that.

Or perhaps they will try a major attack on other Western countries than the US.
Which is also a risk since the UN is no longer subject to Saddams influence and would probably mount a coalition.

Altogether I think their original concept is in ruins, and that local ME powers will refuse to support them openly.

OBL has made threats against SA and their oil fields, so perhaps that would be the next effort. But would we step in assist Saudi Arabia?. We would have to do that for economic reasons .
But they dont want our troops there, so we just provide Saudis the equipment and other support thay need to guard their own oil facilities.

Overall we have those terrorists confused, forcing them to relocate and replan, and that makes their next effort somewhat difficult to predict.
