Was thinking about 2005 and I'm starting to think the majors are going to have to either do some more consolidation or start to pick up either some of the larger E&P's or possibly diversify into other sectors such as coal. Coal really is the only "cheap" energy left available at this time.

Majors will have to put some of that spare change to work fairly soon. There is only so much they can spend on capex. IMO

I have moved away from energy into -

railroads (NSC, CP, BNI)
utilites (RRI, SRP)
coal WLB
foreign closed end funds (CEE, EF)
uranium CCJ
and land companies (TRC, TPL)
pipeline + e&p WMB
and a fair amount of cash

these are doing pretty well while I wait for E&Ps to drop.

I still own a number of Canadian Royalty trusts.
