The number of people missing in the tsunami areas is very representative of the nationalities on holiday in those areas.

This Australian article says, "According to Thai authorities, about 2400 foreigners are dead and 1800 missing. They have warned that the death toll could top 10,000."

As for Australians, "The Department of Foreign Affairs says it has not accounted for around 950 Australians who may have been in the areas affected by the tsunamis."
