UW - The vast majority of the population have no clue what it is like to be fired upon or to kill another person. Thank God for that. They can also thank those that wear and/or wore a US uniform that they have seen only a minor indication of war at home. Yes, 9-11 was horrible, but a mostly forgotten indication of how quickly things can change and how fragile the human body really is. If this young Marine is to be tried for reasons of PC, let him be judged only by those that have been in a close combat situation. Those who judge must have killed in combat-- not by dropping a bomb or firing artillary--- but up close and personal where they SEE the result of their action. No one else can imagine the emotional turmoil involved. No one else will have a clue about where training takes over. Those, like Sites, that believe this Marine did anything wrong need to spend a month in his squad. They need to be shot at. These people need to be near the dead and wounded enemy, knowing -- seeing that they kill also, then tell the Marine he did wrong.
Sites "attempted" to do a CYA and failed. If he is so certain he was correct in his actions why is he in SEA instead of in Iraq? The war did not end. There is an example of a coward that had his 15 min of fame at the expense of another-- then found it was at his expense too. Sadly, he left without consequence, unlike the Marine.
