Gus > many of them union workers--exposed to asbestos, toxic fumes, poisonous combinations of gases and hazardous liquids in either the cleanup of "The Pile" or in disposing of the WTC debris at a landfill on Staten Island.

As far as I am concerned, the explanation for the cough was the enormous cloud of pyroplastic-like dust containing asbestos, cement, glass etc which gave rise to a pulmonary condition similar to pneumoconiosis but worse because the dust contained toxic particles. At no stage was radio-activity detected in this dust, at least, I am not aware of it if it was?

>>In trying to understand what actually happened during the collapse of the World Trade Towers, perhaps the most glaring problem with the "official" models is their inability to explain the enormous dust clouds generated by the collapses. Even early on, when the tops of the buildings had barely started to move, we saw the characteristic jets of fine dust (mixed with larger chunks of debris) being shot out very energetically from the building. During the first few seconds of a gravitational fall nothing is moving very fast, and yet from the outset what appears to be powdered concrete can be seem blowing out to the sides, growing to an immense dust cloud as the collapse progresses. <<

>>A score of scientists conducted detailed analysis of selected dust samples in order to determine the exposure of nearby residents and workers to toxic contaminants. 2 The study performed inorganic and organic analysis on dust samples collected from three locations. The inorganic analysis identified radionuclides, ions, and asbestos; and the organic analysis identified numerous dangerous types of compounds, including: polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs); polychlorinated biphenyls, dibenzodioxins, and dibenzofurans; phthalate esters; and brominated diphenyl ethers. Unfortunately for those affected, the study's discovery of carcinogenic materials was not disclosed until a summary of the findings were published in EHP in November of 2001. By that time, the worst exposures had already occurred. <<

Although radioisotopes were found, there is no mention anywhere of radioactivity ie presence of alpha and beta particles and gamma radiation. IMO, this is not an attempt to obfuscate -- there simply wasn't any.

>>In regard to radioisotopes, the report is rather cryptic. It states: We analyzed approximately 50 peaks based on statistical significance (counting/lack of interferences). These included thorium, uranium, actinium series, and primordial radionuclides. However, it fails to quantify how the levels of these radionuclides compare to background levels. <<

Of course, you can believe, and I'm sure you do, that because radio-activity wasn't mentioned it was as result of a cover-up.

BTW, radioactivity was apparently detected in the environment after the explosion at the Pentagon. This was assumed to be as result of depleted uranium in the aircraft / missile which struck. This is not necessarily of sinister significance because DU is carried as ballast or counterweights in many commercial aircraft.
