Except the cost for such technology and experiment is very prohibitive. Definitely not for the size and magnitude of what took place.

The recent Tsunami in the pacific was generated by a force equal to 10,000 one megaton Atomic bombs. 10 megaton hydrogen bombs exploded underwater in the South Pacific were fatal to submarines ten miles away, but failed to generate noticeable tidal waves.
