The Basenji is a most cat-like dog. It doesn't bark. It has very short hair with minimal shedding. It grooms itself as if it were a cat because it cannot stand being dirty or smelly. The first thing that Mr. B does after his walk or being in the yard is to sit down, lick all of his paws completely clean, check his body and clean it where necessary, and then settle down for his snooze.

The Basenji is highly intelligent, very independent, definitely not a lap dog although it does like to be petted on occasion. Mr. B hates noise and will escape whenever any noise is present in his environment. When the grandkids come over, Mr. B tolerates them up to a point but will not run and romp with them. When they get too wild, Mr. B quietly disappears until they are gone.

I love cats but don't need one when I have a dog like Mr B.
