We cannot simply abandon the Sunni Triangle to lawlessness. Either the Shi'ia will massacre and/or expel the Sunni for being a pain in the ass, or the Sunni will develop "Fallujah Plus", and control a substantial medieval torture chamber from which to sally forth and strike at will. In either case, it is our mess, and we have not yet exhausted our obligation to wipe it up. You assume we just can't win, which is, of course, the very definition of defeatism, unless the case is solid, which I deny. Winning is pretty easy, if it is according to the rules of war, and not the rules of criminal law. We could beat the Mafia easily if we could kill or incarcerate known mobsters without benefit of criminal trials. We just need to continue to develop the intelligence capability to enable us to search- and- destroy the leadership.......
