1. It is shown as a line item in the earnings release
2. The release contains a calculation of earnings per share that exludes the item.>

Pick the damn numbers the company *CHOSES* to pull out of it's hat for earnings and revenue. Both numbers can easily be moved by the companies by 10% over 1 or 2 quarters without any line items. Purely executive decisions. Even revenue. Fact of life, at least as I see it.
