Gas guzzler or not, if it burns gas it contributes to the demand for crude oil.

The belief that "evil greedy ones" want us to be dependent on oil and have manipulated events to make that happen is a great example of primitive thinking. Sorry. Well, it is simplistic thinking.

Suppose all the oil companies of the world were owned and run by generous saints who gave to charity all their profits which didn't need to be reinvested to keep the business going. Would we consume any less oil? Doubtful. The demand exists. Regardless of the inner motivations of those who supply the demand.
