Microdisplays

Now that we can store an entire library on an iPod-sized device or smaller, it seems to me that the emphasis needs to shift to a cheap miniature head-mounted display device with resolution suitable for reading text w.o. giving headaches. I remember seeing a pretty good one at a trade show in Boston about 15 years ago called Private Eye from a company called Reflection Technology in Waltham, MA that was designed for reading faxes. Reflection is now defunct, I think, and I believe that a Japanese company called Omron has acquired the technology. You can Google the references and get a pretty good idea of the device, which I understand is still quite coveted at Media Lab, MIT.

I am soo tired of these postage stamp sized displays on iPods and cell phones that limit you to a couple of sentences of text on the screen at once. Kind of cramps my reading style.

I had hoped for quite a while that Kopin would make a major thrust in this area, but have not yet seen anything marketworthy.

Anybody else following microdisplay industry?
