7:28am 01/05/05 Google started at 'neutral' by Merrill Lynch (GOOG) By Tomi Kilgore

NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- Google Inc. (GOOG) was initiated with a "neutral" rating by Merrill Lynch analyst Lauren Rich Fine, who feels that while there is upside potential for the stock given the positive outlook for the online paid search market, the stock is fairly valued due to its market share. She believes the stock could see downward pressure in mid-February, when the lock up on 177 million restricted shares will lapse. Google closed Tuesday down $8.21 at $194.50.
