kholt, We had to make the effort to let the world know about our contributions to the disaster relief because of people like the a**hole that said we were stingy. The American people, and government, have done more to help the world than any other nation in the history of the planet, and some still try to denigrate us. It's obvious that they are not going to blow our horn, or will turn it into some kind of an evil weapon, so it is necessary to set the record straight.

The maddening thing is that those of us who already have high opinions about the US are being told by those who already have low opinions about the US that we should not expect any improvement in world opinion based on doing good deeds for the tsunami victims. In other words, we're scum, and should simply accept that nothing we do will improve our status as scum. Asking for a re-evaluation of our status as scum is "soiling". Damned if we do, damned if we don't, but don't stop giving.
