Could you possibly be more ignorant? Civil rights laws were passed in the early '60s. The south didn't really begin turning Republican until after Reagan was elected. Some states, like Georgia, were still dominated by Democrats until just the last few years and others, like NC, continue to lean Democrat. Even Jesse Helms didn't get elected until 1972 and that was because of McGovern and Vietnam, not civil rights.
