I loved it. If it weren't for their winters, and the teeny tiny roads, we'd have moved there permanently. As it is I am content to spend springs and summers there.

The people are wonderful, and the land is extremely beautiful- occupied for such a long time, and yet still, it looks like Eden- at least in the highlands, where we were. I do not like the big cities in Scotland- but Inverness is one of the lovliest places on Earth, and the people are some of the nicest you will ever meet. The castles in Scotland are also wonderful. Many of them are still lived in- as is Cawdor castle- still inhabited by the Thanes of Cawdor- and open to the public in the summer. Brody is also very beautiful. I believe the last lord died a few years ago, but up until that time (he was in his 90's) he was living in his little apartment in the castle and showing guests around. They have made his little apartment available to rent now. I think that would be fun.

The castles in Scotland are not of tremendous size- and that makes them great fun to go through. You can really imagine people living in them. Also, some of them have lovely grounds and parks in which you can take walks, and picnic.
