Slacker, Re: VOD handsets and “Other than that, the list is perfect <g>.”

“The Sharp 902 isnt free (minimum 100 pounds), the Nokia 6630 (not 6280) is available for free and the Samsung E810 isnt a W-CDMA handset. “<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

LOL, I copied the info from a screen print of VOD’s website printed within Modoff’s report.

The Sharp 902 could be 802- Hard to read number as the circle around “FREE” somewhat obscures the number 9 which could be “8”

The NOK 6630 in this add reads “Pay 30.00 to 150.00” - in pounds.

The ad is for VOD live phones, and could be from a few weeks ago and could be for phones other than WCDMA. I assumed they were WCDMA as Modoff was speaking of WCDMA phones and circled the “FREE” ones on that screen printed page.

Not a huge start, but at least it is ahead of what they were projecting....

Orange claims 16,500 3G users in France

January 3, 2005

France Telecom owned mobile operator Orange said it has 16,500 subscribers for its 3G mobile service in France, reported Reuters. The 3G service, which has been in operation for less than a month, covers major cities in France and over 60% of cities with population under 200,000 inhabitants.

"As of last night (December 31), we have 16,500 3G customers, of which 12,000 private customers and 4,500 corporate," said an Orange spokesman.

Orange unveiled 3G services in France and the UK on December 6 and initially targeted 10,000 customers in France by the end of 2004.

The company had a "Christmas Special" offer available for 99 euros a month that allowed customers to make unlimited calls to Orange numbers and to fixed numbers, 24 hours a day. The offer also includes a mixture of video download on the Orange World portal, SMS and photo or video MMS messages.

Orange aims to combine 3G and EDGE technology and provide complementary "medium-bandwidth" coverage starting in spring 2005, resulting in 85% coverage of the population.
