Then let me change my recommendation to ... Keep the tags "balanced", i.e., close tags in the exact reverse order to which they are opened.

As to the "weird" spacing, I think I've only seen that when the form encompassed only a portion of a table cell, rather than all of it, ... but then my experience is limited on that precise point.

But weird Mozilla displays and Dreamweaver syntax complaints indicate there is a problem, eh? (No, I'm not Canadian. :-))
