Can you identify a piece that could be spun off and have a prayer of standing on its own as a business?

Sun's style over the past several years has tended to be exactly the opposite: acquire, muff the integration, discontinue the acquired products, lay off part of the acquired staff, assimilate some of the acquired staff, and (eventually) write down the goodwill.

Oh yes, then release a PR bragging about their cash.

sun micro, unfortunately for shareholders, is not "making" billions of dollars. it is SELLING stuff that amounts to billions of dollars every year when it is all tallied up. Unfortunately again for you folks, all those billions really serve just one purpose, and that is to keep thousands of people working ONE MORE DAY. After feeding clothing and putting them in Beemers for the year, shareholders get squat.
