OK, tell me what true great causes you saw cured by people getting really partisan. There are a few instances in human history when people opposed gross injustice by the left or the right and prevailed - but condom substitutes and boring seminars don't come to mind as sterling examples. Seems like a set of inapplicable anecdotes to me. The most fertile ground for petty self-serving partisanship, IMHO. That's the difference between spitting cat fights and real debate. Craven partisanship distracts from facing the real issues. People are too busy stroking their own causes, so to speak.
